The Speech Language Pathology Department becomes involved with many individuals. These therapists are skilled at evaluating difficulties with speech, swallowing, eating, and communication. Many persons recovering from strokes (cerebral vascular accidents) need to retrain their bodies to eat, chew, swallow, and talk.

The therapist is frequently instrumental in breaking through the frustration felt by many of these residents. Language boards, cards, and gestures can be used, thus empowering the resident in communicating their needs to the family
and staff members.. Communication skills are vital for our residents to participate in and direct their rehabilitation.

Residents suffering from intractable diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease, benefit from the therapists' advanced knowledge of feeding techniques. The inability to safely eat and drink foods can be confronted by different feeding techniques and thickness of food and drink.
